With the stunning display of A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains, a work by a genius teenager called Wang Ximeng, Eric Yu started his speech titled "Magic Horizon in a Colorful Graph." In the eyes of Eric Yu, his team members are painters of this era, and through dreams and efforts they're drawing "a thousand miles of rivers and mountains of the big-data world." He reviewed several applications and products introduced by GTCOM during the past five years and shared GTCOM's good results in the IWSLT2017 International Spoken Language Machine Translation Evaluation Contest held a few days earlier. GTCOM ranked first in 16 of the 20 language pairs in the multilingual pair competition, fully demonstrating its leading position in the field of machine translation. These products, which bring together the wisdom of many team members, have helped GTCOM take a decisive step forward. In fact, three new products were launched at the summit, much to the amazement of the audience.

Sufficient vertical depth makes search strong. NexMagic is a semantic understanding-based intelligent search engine independently developed by GTCOM through the use of artificial intelligence and big-data technology. Yu Yang demonstrated how NexMagic performs vertical multilingual semantic searches in the fields of news, technology and patents. NexMagic can build and analyze global data comprising texts, voice and images.

The introduction of DataMap4.0 was even more impressive. On any stage and in any context, DataMap4.0 is a dazzling achievement. As a powerful engine for data-visualization analysis, DataMap4.0 can quickly perform a precisely tailored analysis of the customer's data. Additionally, it can use knowledge graphs, natural-language algorithms and panic predictive analysis to perform deep, visualized mining and analysis of various kinds of data.

Hu Baijing delivered a speech titled "Big Data, Social Emotion and Public Responsibility." He pointed out that in the Internet age, human communication has undergone fundamental changes. The development of means of communication has not brought about an improvement in the quality of communication. However, communication among multiple subjects is very difficult. The facts described in the context of big data can help the public achieve a moderate dialogue while returning to cognitive rationality. Hu Baijing introduced the anxiety index developed together with GTCOM, thus demonstrating the real value of big-data mining and analysis in terms of social emotion and public responsibility.

Yan Yonghong, in his keynote speech titled "Mount Everest in the Smart Era" stated that multilingual speech is a symbol of intelligence and consequently an urgent need of the national Belt and Road Initiative. Currently, there are still many challenges in cross-language processing, such as difficulties in obtaining multilingual data and varying language-processing methods resulting from the differences among languages. Yan Yonghong pointed out that success stems from data advantages, a clear target market and a top technical team. Acoustics will, in the future, strengthen its strategic cooperation with GTCOM in the field of multilingual voice-processing technology and thereby achieve "corner overtaking."

At the Frontier View Forum in the morning, the guests, around the theme "supporting sharing and win-win cooperation through a digital development strategy," discussed how industries should persevere toward win-win cooperation and collaborative development in the era of big data. According to Zhong Weihe, to control core technology and artificial intelligence is to control the future. He expressed hope that excellent Chinese enterprises will catch up with the industry giants. Xu Yongquan said big data isn't a castle in the air, but rather it should stay close to infrastructure construction. Jin Zhenghao believed that refining mass data into high value-density data is a skill essential to the times. Bao Yongwei stressed the need to foster big-data thinking, utilize data, and jointly mine China's big data in the right direction.

As to the field of journalism and news, Wu Chenguang, Editor-in-Chief of Yidianzixun.com, said it's still difficult for artificial intelligence to recommend emotive information and that the application of AI in the new field still has a long way to go. Yu Guoming, Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication of BNU, asserted that journalists who are good at news digging and investigation are still in short supply but that not every news professional has a reason to be replaced by artificial intelligence. Xu Bin, Deputy Director of the Tsinghua University Global Innovation Exchange, suggested that algorithms will continuously enhance the advantages of artificial intelligence and allow it to play an important role in a growing range of fields. Shen Hao, a professor from the Communication University of China, explained that artificial intelligence will predict more accurately the trend of public opinions and provide an innovative solution to the governance of the society and the country. Shan Xuegang, Deputy Director of People's Daily Online Public Opinion Data Center and Deputy General Manager of People Online (peopleyun.cn), emphasized the need to reshape the news production process with experience, big data and artificial intelligence so as to solve the current problems in the media industry.

At the technical level, Zhao Tiejun, Director of the 2020 Cognitive Intelligence Research Institute, said China will remain at the forefront of the world in artificial intelligence by 2020, and that the aggregation of big data, artificial intelligence, mobile Internet, cloud computing and the Internet of Things will broaden the future for humankind. Lian Jing, CEO of PereDoc, Inc., asserted that the value of mass data in the medical industry needs to be analyzed by artificial intelligence. Qian Li, Director of the Information System and Knowledge Computing Center, National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that real-time monitoring and analysis as well as the drawing of data-knowledge graphs empower information collection with big data. Ma Xiujun, Deputy Director of the Peking University Information Technology Institute, emphasized his view that efforts should be made to make cloud technology as easy to use as a faucet or an appliance, which can nourish everything as the switch is turned on, thereby truly improving our quality of life. Xiong Deyi, a professor from the School of Computer Science & Technology, Soochow University, stated that language intelligence is the crown jewel of artificial intelligence which still has a long way to go in the area of language-related deep learning.

In terms of the financial industry, Zhu Keli, an expert of the Development Research Center of the State Council and founder of SmartStone ThinkTank, said that technological integration allows concerted efforts to achieve a leap forward in the financial industry. Wang Zhen, Co-founder of Beijing Caigin Information Technology Co., Ltd., focused on alternative big data and emphasized that only by exploring the potential of the industry can we see opportunities in the industry that others can't see. Du Xiaojun, Co-founder and General Manager of Runup (Group) Co., Ltd., stated that finance without big data is like innovation without a source, adding that big data can provide more valuable forecasts and judgments. Yang Xiayun, Vice-President and CTO of Jiuyi Hengyuan (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd., asserted that the quality and interconnection of data are fundamental to financial services.

The future of big-data development must be open, inclusive and diverse, and it's the enterprises that persist in dreams and long for miracles that can surely lead the industry. GTCOM, in the future, will stay true to its original mission, adhere to the fundamental orientation of technological innovation, and advance cross-language big data, language technology and artificial intelligence.
